Mission Statement
The North American Trade Dependent Alliance (NATDA) is a non-profit
organization developed to reach the following goals:
- To lend credibility to the Trade Dependents and NAFTA Families in
North
America. NATDA recognizes that, as a unified and concerned group, we will
gain more attention from the various organizations and government
departments.
- To generate public awareness of the plight of NAFTA spouses and
teens.
- To serve as a vehicle of political change in which people have the
option
of showing their support by joining as a full fledged member (NAFTA person)
or as a friend (corporate or private).
- To challenge the Working Groups to prioritize the needs of human
beings
rather than inanimate goods crossing the border.
- To act as a support system for those NAFTA individuals suffering from
the
forced unemployment ramifications and the isolation factors associated with
this lifestyle imposed upon Trade Dependents.
- To create educational and emergency trust funds for all NAFTA
families in
need.
- To fund any up-coming trips to either Ottawa or Washington for one or
two
spokespeople to represent us.
- To fund the general costs of running an office for the NATDA group,
in order to continue our advocacy for Trade Dependents.
The North American Trade Dependent Alliance (NATDA) Recommendations:
- The American, Canadian and Mexican governments should agree upon and
create a unique employment authorization category designed especially for
spouses and children of NAFTA Trade Nationals relocating to one of the
other respective countries.
- The spousal and dependent employment issues need to become a top
priority
of the three governments involved. The governments should consider the
forcible unemployment of spouses and children a true emergency situation to
be resolved as quickly as possible.
- The information regarding Trade Dependent rights should become easily
available to all interested members of the public.
